The Little Inventors Handbook
After the initial creation of the Little Inventors brand, we were thrilled to be able to take this through into a full children’s book design.
_
A creative handbook to be written and drawn within, we created simple rules such as:
Strong chapter spreads; so a child can easily flip to them.
Pale yellow pages to denote tasks; so a child recognises where they should draw and write their ideas.
The feeling of fluidity and freedom, yet all within a strict grid; to be easily understood and digestible.
Inclusion of considered negative space; as to not overwhelm the reader.
A fun yet limited colour palette; to ensure the core (yellow, white and black) Little Inventors brand leads, and remains recognisable.
Unique illustrations throughout; no repetition keeps children engaged and inspired!

Naomi was friendly and responsive, making her a joy to work with!
Her clean, modern design worked wonderfully with Dominic's illustrations and we were all delighted with the final product.

Why we wanted to work on a book!
_
Having already worked with Little Inventors, and seeing the impact they were having on children’s creativity – it was a huge YES, when they approached us to design their first book.
Deadlines were short(!), but we jumped at the chance all the same. And were honoured to work with Publisher Harper Collins.
Seeing it in stores, and in the hands of so many more children now makes this project a true joy, and worth all that hard work!
